UP Transport Dept Suspends 25 Auto Dealers Over Registration Lapses In Statewide Crackdown
In a major crackdown aimed at enforcing vehicle registration compliance, the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department has suspended the trade licenses of 25 automobile dealerships across the state for one month. The suspended dealers have been barred from selling vehicles or uploading registration details on the VAHAN portal during the suspension period, which began on June 3.
This unprecedented disciplinary action marks the first time the department has taken such a strong stand against widespread non-compliance with registration procedures. According to a senior transport official, the move is part of a larger effort to ensure accountability and streamline citizen services in vehicle registration.
The list of penalised dealerships spans multiple districts, including Lucknow, Barabanki, Sitapur, Kushinagar, Moradabad, Prayagraj, and others. Among the more prominent names is Aarna Megacorp Pvt. Ltd. in Lucknow, a notable player in the regional automotive market. Other affected dealers include Barabanki Auto Sales & Service, Bright 2 Wheel Sales, Kalyan Motors, Narendra Automobiles, Agarwal Auto Sales, and M/s Budhram Auto.
Dealerships in districts such as Sambhal (Badar Motors), Pratapgarh (M/S Janta Trading Company), Maharajganj (Shubham Automobiles and Chandra Sales), Raebareli (Shakti Autos), and Jaunpur (M/S Auto Wheels) were also penalised. Suspensions extended further to Bharat Auto Sales in Sant Kabir Nagar, Shyam Motors in Fatehpur and Auraiya, Shiva Auto Sales in Ghazipur, RN Motors in Rampur, Jai Auto Mobiles in Ambedkar Nagar, Cross Wheel Auto Pvt. Ltd. in Moradabad, and Uplife Solutions Pvt. Ltd. in Basti.
Transport department officials said the action follows repeated warnings and notices sent to these dealers. A detailed audit of registration pendency between January and May 2025 revealed persistent violations of Rule 39 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR) as well as the Uttar Pradesh Motor Vehicles Rules. Dealers were issued show-cause notices on April 21 and May 15, but many failed to respond adequately or resolve their backlogs.
In its official statement, the Transport Commissioner’s Office emphasised that the suspension is not just punitive but also intended to reinforce discipline and transparency in the vehicle registration process. “Compliance with regulatory norms is essential to deliver efficient services to citizens. This action signals that disregard for rules will not be tolerated, regardless of a dealer’s size or location,” the statement read.
The crackdown doesn’t end here. In a parallel move, show-cause notices have also been served to an additional 50 dealerships statewide that have high volumes of pending registration files. These dealers have been given 14 days to address the backlog or face similar suspensions. The department’s actions underscore a growing emphasis on governance, transparency, and citizen-first service delivery across Uttar Pradesh’s transport sector.
