Chennai: A student named Gowtham from Salem district in Tamil Nadu allegedly died by suicide, reportedly due to fear over the upcoming NEET examination results.
The deceased has been identified as Gowtham, son of Ranjan and Yogalakshmi from Reddipatti. He had attempted to clear the NEET examination twice earlier but was unsuccessful.
Gowtham appeared for the entrance exam again in the first week of May this year. Before the results were announced, he was found hanging at his residence in Salem on Monday morning. The Sooramangalam Police have registered a case and sent his body to Salem Government Hospital for postmortem.
According to his parents, despite their advice to consider other career options, Gowtham remained determined to clear the NEET exam.
In a separate news, a heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded in Rajasthan's Kota as 23-year-old NEET aspirant Roshan Sharma from Delhi was found dead near a railway track on Thursday, just days ahead of the NEET-UG 2025 exam. His grieving parents, who had recently visited him to persuade him to return home, were left shattered as they waited outside the mortuary to claim his body.
Roshan’s father, Ranjit Sharma, a carpenter from Delhi’s Tughlakabad recounted their last interactions. The family had travelled to Kota on April 22 to bring Roshan home after he expressed reluctance to appear for the exam this year.
"Our son was studious, scoring 550-600 marks in routine tests at the coaching institute," Ranjit said. He added that Roshan had recently told his sister he needed another year to fully prepare for the medical entrance exam.
Despite the parents' pleas, Roshan refused to return with them. They left Kota with his belongings, hoping he would change his mind. However, when repeated calls went unanswered, their worst fears came true.
