Govinda, once a dominant figure in Bollywood during the 1990s, has been largely absent from mainstream cinema, with his last successful film being Partner in 2007. His wife, Sunita Ahuja, recently shared her perspective on his career stagnation, citing the influence of sycophantic associates who fail to provide honest feedback. She stressed on the need for Govinda to adapt to contemporary filmmaking trends.
Govinda’s Wife Sunita Ahuja Slams His Outdated Choices, Reveals REAL Reason Behind Career Lull: It’s 2025, Not 90s
Once the king of comedy and box office gold in the 1990s, Govinda has been missing from Bollywood's mainstream radar for years. With no notable success in over a decade and his last film, Rangeela Raja (2019), faring poorly, fans have long wondered what led to the actor’s prolonged absence from the silver screen. Now, his wife Sunita Ahuja has offered an unfiltered take.
Sunita Ahuja on Govinda's career lull
Speaking in a chat with The Powerful Humans, Sunita pointed fingers at the people surrounding the actor, accusing them of being nothing more than sycophants. “Why has Govinda not been seen in 17 years? The problem is that his circle is the wrong one. It’s a wrong circle. Today, my fights with him are because I can’t lie, and I do not appreciate flattery,” she stated.
Without naming anyone directly, she said, “Today he has four people – a writer, a musician, a secretary and a lawyer friend. They are of no use. They only say ‘wah, wah!’ If he makes music, they say ‘wah, wah… kalam kar diya.’ They should tell him the truth. When I tell him the truth, he gets upset.”
Sunita wants Govinda to move ahead with time
Sunita further criticised Govinda’s outdated approach to filmmaking. “I tell him the 90s era is over. It is 2025. Look at what’s working on Netflix and digital platforms. But he stays with his ‘wah, wah‘ production. I told him, change your circle. For as long as you have these 4–5 people, they won’t let you go forward,” she added.
While Sunita's feedback for her husband might sound too direct, once the King of Masses, Govinda's last superhit was Partner, released in the year 2007, almost two decades back. His last big film Kill Dill was way back in 2024. Maybe Sunita's advice will work for him!
