Hyderabad: What began as a cheerful weekend escape for seven colleagues from a Hyderabad-based software company ended on tragic note when two young employees died in a road accident at Edulabad during the early hours of Sunday.
The group, which included software team lead Praveen and six others, Bhargav, Varshith, Dinesh, Vinay, Bhavadeep, and Rajesh, had arrived at Vihari Nature's Nest farmhouse around 2.30 pm on Friday, as per a TOI report. They were looking forward to an evening of relaxation and celebration.
According to Ghatkesar sub-inspector A Shekhar, “They reached the farmhouse in two cars, one driven by Praveen and another by a hired driver. The group partied until about 2.30 am on Saturday.”
Hunger took them out again. The team left the farmhouse and headed towards Edulabad in search of food. However, they were unable to find any open eateries and were returning when tragedy struck.
As they made their way back, the Hyundai Creta driven by Praveen suddenly veered off the road. The car smashed into two electric poles and a tree.
“The impact was so severe that the right passenger door flung open. Bhargav and Varshith, who were seated in the rear, were thrown out of the vehicle and died on the spot due to multiple injuries,” said SI Shekhar. Both victims, aged 23, were identified as Bathula Bhargav Yadav from Kuntloor and Chethi Varshith from Sainikpuri. Their families were notified at around 3 am after police were alerted by the group members following in the second vehicle.
Driver Under Investigation
Praveen sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Medipally. Dinesh, seated in the front passenger seat, suffered minor injuries.“Initial probe points to rash and negligent driving. We have collected Praveen's blood sample for blood alcohol content analysis. Viscera samples of the deceased will also be tested for alcohol,” inspector P Parashuram told reporters.
Although airbags had deployed, the intensity of the crash was extreme. “Liquor bottles were recovered from the farmhouse, and CCTV footage has been collected as part of the probe. We will also be recording statements from the other group members,” the SI added.
A case has been registered against Praveen under Section 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita following a complaint by Bhargav’s uncle, B Nagesh Yadav.
