The first photo of Sonam Raghuvanshi, the woman who was earlier said to have gone missing in Meghalaya, has surfaced. A search operation was launched on May 23 after she and her husband Raja Raghuvanshi had gone missing. After more than 15 days, the police have arrested Sonam Raghuvanshi and three killers. Her first photo after arrest shows her in a black t-shirt and what looks like black trousers.
Sonam reportedly surrendered to police. Raja's decomposed body was found on June 2, after which the police, NDRF and other agencies intensified the search operation to find Sonam. In the days after June 2, the cops found the bloodied machete, raincoat and white t-shirt in the area where the body was found.
Sonam's family had earlier said that the state authorities were not conducting a proper search for her. However, the search has now ended with her arrest. As of now, there is no clarity on why she executed Raja's murder.
"One person was picked up from UP, and another two accused were apprehended from Indore by the SIT," a police officer said, quoted PTI.
"Sonam surrendered at the Nandganj police station in UP, and was subsequently arrested," she added. The officer further said the arrested men have revealed that the wife had hired them to kill Raghuvanshi.
"The operation is still continuing in Madhya Pradesh to catch some more persons involved in the crime," she said.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma earlier congratulated the police for cracking the case that had shocked the state and the nation.
"Within 7 days a major breakthrough has been achieved by the #meghalayapolice in the Raja murder case... 3 assailants who are from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested, female has surrendered and operation still on to catch 1 more assailant well done," he posted on X.
