England cricketer Jos Buttler is likely to face a dilemma as the BCCI announced a revised schedule following a week's pause due to the India-Pakistan standoff.
The remaining 16 matches, including the playoffs, will be held from May 17, with the final scheduled for June 3. The Indian cricket board announced the new schedule after India and Pakistan reached an 'understanding.'
However, with England scheduled to play a three-match ODI and T20I series against West Indies at home, Buttler finds himself in the middle of a club-versus-country dilemma. England's home series against West Indies will begin with the first ODI on May 29 in Birmingham, with the second and third ODIs set to be played on June 1 and June 3, respectively. This means Buttler will find himself in a potential conflict of interest situation.
His IPL franchise, Gujarat Titans, are currently at the top of the standings with 16 points from 11 matches and are favourites to win the title. Buttler, who was signed by the Titans for a whopping Rs 15.75 crore at the auction in November, has been one of Titans' batting mainstays this season. He has scored 500 runs from 11 matches at an average of 71.43 and maintained a strike rate of 163.93.
Other England cricketers playing in the IPL include Phil Salt, Jacob Bethell, and Liam Livingstone, who are representing the second-placed Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Other notable England cricketers in the IPL are fast bowler Jofra Archer, Will Jacks, Reece Topley, Jamie Overton, and Sam Curran, all of whom are being considered for selection by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for the West Indies series.
Buttler quit the captaincy earlier this year, with Harry Brook replacing him.
