Royal Challengers Bengaluru Create History, Achieve Stunning Feat Which No IPL Team Has Done Before

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) created history with a stunning six-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Tuesday (May 27) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Cricket Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

RCB chased down the third-highest total in IPL history and completed a chase of 228 with eight balls to spare. This result meant that RCB secured a top-two spot and will have two chances of reaching the final. They will play Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the first qualifier in Mullanpur on Thursday (May 28).

RCB have now won all seven away games this season and have become the first team in the history of the IPL to remain unbeaten on the road in years when the home-and-away format was followed.

While Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians had also won seven matches in the league stage in 2012, that was a 16 match season and meant that there were eight games meaning the Gautam Gambhir and Harbhjan Singh-led sides had lost one game that year.

Earlier this season, RCB also became the first side in 13 years to beat CSK at Chepauk, MI at Wankhede, and KKR at Eden Gardens in the same season in what were their first three away games of the season. Only the Punjab Kings in 2012 had achieved the feat before. While Jitesh Sharma led RCB in the match against LSG, Rajat Patidar was the captain of the side in their first six games.

While RCB did lose to SRH on Friday (May 24) in Lucknow, it is worth noting that it firstly a neutral venue. Secondly, it was officially a home game for the Bengaluru-based franchise, which was shifted out of the Chinnaswamy Stadium due to a rain threat.

Talking about the match, stand-in skipper Jitesh was the star of RCB's victory as he registered the first half-century of his IPL career with a knock of 85 in 33 balls while putting up a 107-run stand for the sixth wicket with Mayank Agarwal. Earlier, Virat Kohli gave them a quick start with a knock of 54 in 30 balls.

Earlier, LSG posted 227 on the board with Rishabh Pant scoring an IPL century after seven years with a knock of 118 in 61 balls.
