Veteran Gael Monfils pulled off a stunning comeback win over Hugo Dellien in a Round of 128 match at the French Open 2025. Monfils was down and out after losing the first two sets 4-6 and 4-3, respectively, however, he raised his game in the third set and pulled one back, winning the set 6-1. The fourth set was another thriller and went into the tie-break, with Monfils forcing the match into the decider. He made easy work of Dellien in the final set and won 6-1.

Meanwhile, the win over Hugo Dellien helped Gael Monfils create history at the French Open. He became the first player in the world to win 12 five-setters in men's singles at the Roland Garros during the Open Era. Monfils was tied with Stan Wawrinka with 11 five setters win at the French Open, and the win over Dellien helped him leapfrog the veteran.Monfils' Reaction To The Win
Monfils suffered an injury scare early in the game after a nasty fall, however, he was determined to fight it out and claimed an impressive win. He also equaled Yannick Noah’s record for the most wins (40) by a French player at the tournament.“I won 40 times here? It means I've played for a long time. That's probably the reason why,” Monfils said in the press conference.
“For me is the belief, the belief of myself. I know in Roland Garros is a little bit different, so I even push more,” Monfils said.
“I love night sessions. I think it's fabulous. I was lucky enough to have that several times. It's just extraordinary. I try to do the best I can,” he added.
