A shooting in Toronto’s Lawrence Heights on Tuesday night left one man dead and five others injured, as per reports from the local media. The six victims were taken to the hospital. A man, who was critically injured during the shooting, was pronounced dead by the police. Toronto Police confirmed that five people had non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Emergency crews responded to the scene near Flemington and Zachary Roads, around Ranee Avenue and Allen Road, just after 8:30 p.m. A command post has been set up near Ranee Avenue and Allen Road, under the overpass.
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow called the incident disturbing and said her office is in touch with police and Deputy Mayor Mike Colle. She wrote, "Disturbed by news of the shootings in the Lawrence Heights area this evening. My office is in contact with Toronto Police, who are on scene now and investigating, and the local councillor Deputy Mayor Mike Colle."
She also thanked the first responders, adding, "I want to thank the first responders - Toronto Police, Fire and Paramedic services for your work on a very busy and challenging scene. Toronto Police are working to provide an update soon."
The victims were treated for injuries ranging from serious to critical, reported CP24. According to the Toronto paramedics, the victims range from 18 to 40 years of age. No suspect details have been released yet.
