The protest in Los Angeles continues to escalate as US President Donald Trump said they would continue to hit the agitators, later adding that "Los Angeles will be set free". Speaking to the reporters while boarding Air Force One, Trump said, "they spit, we hit", hinting that the action by the federal government would not reduce.
The trouble increased when Trump decided to deploy 2000 National Guard to the Los Angeles detention, which the California Governor said was not needed. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass also said now that that the LA police department (LAPD) and sheriffs could have handled the situation easily.
However, Trump appears to believe otherwise as he continues to stand on the deployment of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) troops. "They spit and worse, you know, what they throw at them, right?" Trump said while departing for Camp David, and claimed that demonstrators had engaged in physical provocation, justifying a tough federal response.
"And when that happens, I have a little statement. They spit, we hit. And I told them, nobody's going to spit on our police officers, nobody's going to spit on our military. Which they do, is a common thing. They get up to them this far away and then they start spitting in their face. That happens. They get hit very hard," he added.
"I mean, if we see danger to our country and to our citizens, it will be very, very strong in terms of law and order...It's about law and order. We're going to be watching it very closely," the US President added.
Later, he shared a post on his social media platform to announce further action against the anti-immigration protests.
"A once great American City, Los Angeles, has been invaded and occupied by Illegal Aliens and Criminals. Now, violent, insurrectionist mobs are swarming and attacking our Federal Agents to try and stop our deportation operations — But these lawless riots only strengthen our resolve," he said.
He took the opportunity to announce next steps and said, "I am directing Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Attorney General Pam Bondi, in coordination with all other relevant Departments and Agencies, to take all such action necessary to liberate Los Angeles from the Migrant Invasion, and put an end to these Migrant riots. Order will be restored, the Illegals will be expelled, and Los Angeles will be set free. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
On Sunday, the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Kash Patel, stated that anyone who hits a copy would be going to jail. This came as a warning to immigrant protesters who are clashing with the police officials.
"Hit a cop, you’re going to jail… doesn’t matter where you came from, how you got here, or what movement speaks to you. If the local police force won’t back our men and women on the thin blue line, we
@FBI will," Patel said in a post on X.
