Mumbai Train Accident: In response to the recent Mumbai local train accident, the Railway Ministry has decided to introduce newly designed non-AC trains with improved ventilation to tackle overcrowding issues. The decision came after a detailed meeting with the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), reported ANI.
“In the wake of the unfortunate incident in Mumbai, the Railway Minister and Railway Board officials held an in-depth meeting with the ICF team. It was decided that new non-AC trains will be developed, focusing on better ventilation using three key design changes,” the Railways said in an official statement.

What Are the Key Changes?

1. Louvred Doors – The ministry said the new coaches will have doors fitted with louvres (angled slats). This feature will allow better airflow even when the train is crowded.
2. Roof-Mounted Ventilation Units – Fresh air will be pumped in through specially designed units on the roof of each coach.
3. Vestibules Between Coaches – This will allow passenger to move freely between coaches to help naturally balance crowd density.
