In Hinduism, Purnima (full moon) is considered one of the most auspicious days to worship Chandra Dev (the Moon God). This date symbolises light and energy. Offering arghya to the moon on this day is believed to bring harmony in life. It's recommended to bathe in holy waters (snan) and give charity (daan). Worshipping Lord Vishnu, is an important practise observed on Purnima. It is believed that such acts fulfil one’s wishes and help remove doshas from the astrological chart. Among all full moons, Jyeshtha Purnima holds particular significance because of it falls near Nirjala Ekadashi, and gives two powerful opportunities to worship Lord Vishnu.

When is Jyeshtha Purnima 2025?

According to the Hindu Panchang, the Purnima tithi in the month of Jyeshtha begins on Tuesday, 10th June 2025 at 11:35 AM and ends on Wednesday, 11th June 2025 at 1:13 PM.
As a result, Purnima Vrat will be observed on Tuesday, 10th June, as the full moon begins during the day and continues through the night—making it ideal for moon sighting and worship. Moonrise is expected at 7:40 PM on this day. Meanwhile, sacred activities like ritualistic bath in holy waters and giving charity will be done the next day, Wednesday, 11th June 2025.

Purnima Puja Vidhi

  • Begin your day with a bath early in the morning.
  • Place a clean platform or chowki, and install an idol or picture of Lord Vishnu upon it.
  • Perform abhishek of the deity with Ganga jal and offer fresh flowers.
  • Offer kheer with tulsi leaves as bhog to the deity. You can also offer yellow-coloured sweets as bhog.
  • Light a ghee lamp.
  • Chant mantras dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
  • Perform aarti.
  • At night, worship the moon. Offer arghya by pouring raw milk into a vessel and raising it toward the moon.
