An updates regarding the alleged 'Pradhan Mantri Free Scooty Yojana' is doing rounds on the internet, suggesting that the central government is providing vehicles to girls. However, the claim was found to be false.
Viral messages on social media platforms claimed that the government is running a scheme called the 'Pradhan Mantri Free Scooty Yojana,' under which girl students are being provided free scooties to attend college. However, the fact-checking unit of the government's nodal agency, Press Information Bureau (PIB) has found it to be fake.
Such misleading posts often direct users to unofficial websites or forms asking for personal details — raising risks of potential fraud.
"Have you also fallen prey to the 'Prime Minister's Free Scooty Scheme'? An article on social media is claiming that the government is giving free scooties to girl students to go to college under the 'Pradhan Mantri Free Scooty Yojana'." PIB Fact-Check posted on X.
"No such 'Free Scooty Scheme' is being run by the Central Government," the post added, saying that the viral claim was found to be fake.
The PIB also urged citizens to verify any such scheme with official sources, either through the PIB Fact-Check's X handles or the official websites of government ministries.
