His London Departure Strengthens Suspicion Complaint Against Virat Kohli In Connection With Bengaluru Stampede
Bengaluru: In connection with the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede, a complaint against cricketer Virat Kohli has been submitted at the Cubbon Park Police Station in Bengaluru. It was lodged by senior social activist H.M. Venkatesh. On June 4, a stampede occurred near Chinnaswamy Stadium during RCB’s IPL celebrations, claiming 11 lives.
The police have also issued a clarification, stating that the complaint will be considered under the already registered case, and it will be examined during the course of the ongoing investigation.
In his complaint, Venkatesh pointed at Virat Kohli's London Tour, saying, "His immediate departure to London following the deaths strengthens this suspicion. On social media, he encouraged fans to attend the event but failed to issue any warnings or precautions regarding public safety."
He held Kohli responsible for the stampede, stating that he had "played a central role in this gambling-like entertainment".
He said, "Virat Kohli of the RCB team played a central role in this gambling-like entertainment and in provoking the public into gathering in large numbers, thus contributing directly to the incident. Therefore, we urge you to name Virat Kohli and senior RCB team members as accused in the FIR related to this tragedy."
"Most of those who died were Virat Kohli fans who had travelled from different parts of Karnataka and beyond just to get a glimpse of him. The police failed in their duty to regulate and control the crowd," he added.
