Mumbai: The Maharashtra government plans to build a 25-km-long flyover on the Pune-Solapur highway. This flyover will run from Hadapsar (a part of Pune) to Yavat, reported The Indian Express. The goal is to reduce traffic jams on this busy highway, which is important for transporting farm products, goods, and other business traffic.
The flyover will have six lanes, and underneath it, the existing highway will also be widened to six lanes. After Yavat, the highway towards Solapur will be widened to six lanes for about 6.5 km. The project will cost around Rs 5,262 crore and will be done using a “build-operate-transfer” method.
This means a private company will build and run it for some time, and the government will collect tolls (fees) from vehicles using the flyover. The toll will be collected using electronic systems like FastTag to avoid delays.
This project is similar to other flyovers planned or being built on nearby highways, like the Wagholi-Shirur flyover on the Pune-Ahmednagar highway and a new highway project between Pune and Aurangabad.
The government also wants to reduce traffic problems in Pune city by directing heavy vehicles to use a proposed ring road that connects all highways passing through Pune.
Additionally, another highway project near Pune, a missing link on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway near Lonavala, is almost finished. This will help save travel time and reduce fuel use for vehicles.
The government is working on big road projects to make highway travel smoother and reduce traffic jams around Pune.
