The full moon or Purnima, which falls on the last day of each lunar month, is considered especially significant in the Hindu calendar. On this sacred day, snan (ritualistic bathing practise) and daan (charity) holds great spiritual importance. "According to the Indian tradition, Jyeshtha means the senior-most, the first and the foremost of the most ancient. In the ancient Hindu scripture Vishnu Sahastra Naam Strotram, Lord Vishnu has been called Jyeshtha Shreshtha Prajapita in the Sloka Number 8. As Lord Vishnu is also worshipped on this day, that is why it is called Jyeshtha Purnima, states the website of GaneshaSpeaks.

Spiritual Significance of Jyeshtha Purnima
On the day of Jyeshtha Purnima, it is considered beneficial to observe a fast (vrat). According to tradition, practises of daan or charity to the needy is recommended on this day. One can also donate to Hindu temples. Worshipping Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi on this day is believed to dispel sorrow and bring lasting happiness and prosperity into one’s life.
