Why Is The RCB-PBKS IPL 2025 Final On A Tuesday And Has The Summit Clash Taken Place On A Weekday Before?

The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) final is a historic occasion as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) are battling in front of a jam-packed crowd at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, with both teams aiming to end a 17-year drought and lift the elusive title.

The summit clash taking place on June 3 is a unique as it is being held on a Tuesday. Usually, the summit clash of the IPLs is held on a Sunday, and this marks only the fifth occasion of the final not taking place on a Sunday and the fourth time on a weekday. .

The 2025 IPL final was originally scheduled to take place on May 25 (Sunday), but the league's eight-day suspension meant that the final had to be postponed. The new schedule saw not just the summit clash's

venue being shifted from Kolkata to Ahmedabad, but the final is taking place nine days later than originally scheduled on June 3 (Tuesday).

Only twice before has the IPL final been scheduled on a weekday. In the 2020 and 2021 seasons, when the United Arab Emirates (UAE) hosted the tournament, and the summit clash was held on Tuesday and Friday, respectively, at the Dubai International Stadium.

Another such instance was the 2023 final which that originally set to take place on Sunday but was then pushed to the reserve day on Monday.

This makes it the first instance of a final taking place on a weekday (apart from reserve days) in India. All other finals have taken place on a Sunday apart from 2011, when the final between CSK and RCB took place on a Saturday. Talking about the match, PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl. Both teams went with unchanged playing XIs.
