JEE MAIN
Joint Entrance Examination, JEE Main is a national level entrance examination for admission to B. Tech and B. Arch courses in various engineering colleges in the country. The examination is conducted by National Testing Agency, NTA in computer-based test format across multiple sessions. JEE Main score is used for admission to National Institutes of Technology – NITs, Indian Institutes of Information Technology - IIITs, Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) including IISERs as well as Institutions, Universities funded or recognized by participating State Governments.
The examination, as mentioned earlier, is a CBT examination. The candidates are tested in two sections, which comprise of objective questions in the form of MCQ’s based on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The other section comprises of Numerical representation questions. For the B. Arch candidates, a drawing test and skill test is also conducted.
JEE Main comprises of mainly two papers. Paper 1 is conducted for students who wish to seek admission in UG Engineering Programmes (B.E. and BTech) at NITs, IITs, CFTIs and other institutions, universities funded or recognized by participating State Governments.
Paper 2 is conducted for students who wish to seek admission for Bachelors in Architecture and Planning (B. Arch and B. Planning) Degree courses in the country. Both Paper 1 and Paper 2 are conducted in CBT mode. A pen and paper test is conducted for B. Arch candidates as part of their Drawing Test. A total of 90 questions are given to candidates out of which only 75 need to be attempted. The JEE Main exam consists of a total of 300 marks.
JEE Main will be resumed in India in 2022 as it was not conducted due to the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020 and 2021. JEE Main is also an eligibility test for JEE Advanced, which is conducted for admission to IITs for undergraduate courses leading to a Bachelors, Integrated Masters, Bachelor-Master Dual Degree in Engineering, Sciences, or Architecture.
