A woman in Uttar Pradesh had just married, but her husband left for Mumbai soon after their wedding. During this time, she and her brother-in-law grew affectionate to each other and eloped when the family found out about their bond. However, the woman and her brother-in-law got married on Thursday with the consent from the family, said officials on Friday, PTI reported.
The matter belongs to Uttar Pradesh's Sant Kabir Nagar district. According to the Chairman of the Nagar Panchayat in Hariharpur, Ravindra Pratap Shahi, the woman's husband had left for Mumbai in search of work. The woman, Khushboo, had married Kallu in Hariharpur six months ago. However, soon after their wedding, he moved to Mumbai in search of work. In the meantime, she grew closer to her brother-in-law, Amit.
When the family learned of their relationship, she and Amit eloped. They were later brought back home by relatives but the couple insisted on staying together. The family tried to mediate among Khusboo, Kallu and Amit, even Shahi was involved to mediate the matters.
However, the couple did not agree and Shahi then facilitated their wedding at his office in the presence of family members and local leaders. The wedding took place on Thursday at the camp office of the Nagar Panchayat chairman. Her husband chose not to attend the wedding and reportedly disassociated himself from the matter. Local representatives and councillors witnessed the ceremony, Shahi said.
